August New Brews

August has been a pretty full-on month. I had friends up to visit at the start of the month, followed by a mini bar crawl with other friends the next day. We headed over to Rimini for a few days, popping over to San Marino on a day trip. We’ve also been over to Sheffield and York, and we finished the month at the Brewed in Leeds Festival hosted by Horsforth Brewery and Taproom. And of course, in between all that, we’ve been trying plenty of new brews at home.

We were at Horsforth Brewery & Taproom for Brewed in Leeds, but it’s worth a visit regardless of whether there’s a festival or not. It’s a lovely venue with plenty of indoor seating as well as a terrace at the back. There are 10 keg lines plus three cask lines, plus a range of other drinks on offer too.

Here’s a quick rundown of what we’ve been drinking in August.

We were only in Rimini for four days, but managed two visits to Fob, a lovely craft beer bar serving beers from around the world. With over 25 beers on tap, there was a lot of choice, so we decided to narrow it down by sticking to Italian-brewed beers, which included a pils, a gose, and a bitter

We did a day trip to the beautiful San Marino, but wandering the old town and climbing towers is thirsty work. Fortunately, we were able to source a couple of local craft beers.

One of our Thursday sessions included these four pale ales from four different UK breweries: Power Move from Neon Raptor, Speak, Memory from Pressure Drop, Long White Cloud from Tempest, and Everyday People from Arbor. They were all good beers, but the Long White Cloud just pipped it as our beer of the night.

We’ve tried Landlord, Landlord Dark and Boltmaker before, but Knowle Spring was a new brew. All solid beers - there’s a reason Timothy Taylor’s are so popular - but I think I prefer Boltmaker to Landlord.

We rounded off the month at the Brewed in Leeds Festival at Horsforth Brewery, where we tried ten brilliant brews from various Leeds breweries. Not a single beer was disappointing, and we discovered some new breweries that we’ll be keeping an eye out for.

Alex is running the Great North Run in a couple of weeks so we’ll be on the lookout for a good post-run beer while we’re up in Newcastle. We’ll also be splitting these eight brews from Polly’s over a couple of weeks.
