During our visit to Dubrovnik in June, we visited a cool little craft beer bar - Dubrovnik Beer Factory - right in the heart of the old town. They also have a brewery and taproom - Dubrovnik Beer Company - outside the old town, but we didn’t make it there (this time).

Dubrovnik Beer Factory

Cool craft beer bar in the heart of the old town

Lager and wine are abundant in Dubrovnik, but finding craft beer on tap is a little more challenging. Fortunately, we’d done our research and made it our mission to visit Dubrovnik Beer Factory in the old town.

There’s not much to it from the outside, but inside is a quirky and spacious bar that leads out to a sheltered beer garden.

What we drank

They only had two of their own beers on tap when we visited, so we tried both. First up was a lager, followed by a pale ale. Both were lovely and made a refreshing change to the macro lagers that were widely available on tap in most bars and restaurants we’d been to.

Maestral: 5.4% Lager

Brewer’s note: Maestral, refreshing north-western wind that blows during the warmest part of summer’s day is one way of keeping cool along the Croatian coast, the other one is this beer. We like both.

Fortunal: 5.4% Pale Ale

Brewer’s note: Fortunal is a sudden storm characterised by gusts of strong wine. They are exciting and a bit scary, but bring clear skies and much needed refreshment, just like Fortunal Pale Ale with its summery fruity and citrus aromas and a wonderfully silky texture.

More Croatian Craft Beer

During our Dubrovnik stay, we were also able to source a good range of craft beers in the supermarkets and a little coffee shop/local produce store called Life According to KAWA.

Here is a selection of the beers we managed to source.
