We kicked off the month with our in-person New Brew Event at The Brewery Tap. Following that, things went a bit quiet as I was finishing my latest book and we were both in training for the Wakefield 10k.

We finished the month celebrating a family birthday over in Newark, where we found some lovely cask ales and a great little independent beer shop. And although we weren’t out and about much this month, we made up for it with some banging new brews at home.

Venue Shout-Out: Oscar’s Inn, Newark-on-Trent

My stepdad turned 70 this month, so we booked a table at Oscar’s for lunch for all the family (20 of us in total). The venue is split into two, with a more pub-like feel on one side and a dining area on the other, plus there’s a good-sized beer garden at the back.

As well as offering a great selection of food, they also have 8 handpulls (there were 6 different cask ales on during our visit) plus a range of draft beers (and other drinks).

Located about a ten-minute walk from the market square, it’s worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Online Store Recommendation

During our trip to Newark, we also popped into The Real Ale Store, which had a fantastic range of beers. If you haven’t got a trip to Newark planned, they have an online store and deliver nationwide.

Newsletter Recommendation

This month, I’m also recommending another beer-themed newsletter, The Craft Beer Brief.

What We’ve Been Drinking in March…

Here’s a quick rundown of what we’ve been drinking in March.

A random selection of stouts and porters

As we’re coming to the end of the dark winter months, we’re making our way through some of the final dark beers we have in our collection. We put these five random stouts and porters together for one of our Thursday sessions.

A random selection of pale ales

We were given these a while ago by a friend who’d forgotten to cancel their Beer 52 subscription. They aren’t a big fan of IPAs, and knew we’d be happy to take them off their hands. They were all good beers, but the Cold Cryo Pop IPA from Jump Brewing was our favourite of the night.

New Brews at Home

As well as our random Thursday selections, we’ve had some lovely beers at home this month, including…

New Brews Out and About

And, as always, we’ve been on the lookout for tasty new brews when we’re out and about, and we found a fair few, including these…

What’s on the menu for the month ahead?

Alex is off to both Wales and Scotland in April, so he will be on the lookout for some new brews during his travels. We’ve also got a selection from Ossett Brewery and a selection of English Ales.

I’m always open to recommendations, so do let me know of any good beers you’ve been drinking recently, and I hope to see you at my next new brew event in a few days.

Cheers!
