Brewery: Mount Saint Bernard Abbey| Location: Leicestershire | Find them: Tynt Meadow: Mount St Bernard Abbey

Tynt Meadow is brewed by the UK’s only authentic Trappist Brewery, Mount Saint Bernard Abbey.
There are only 10 official Trappist breweries in the world – six in Belgium, two in the Netherlands, one in Austria and this one. To meet the criteria of an Authentic Trappist Product:
All products must be made within the immediate surroundings of the abbey
Production must be carried out under the supervision of the monks or nuns
Profits should be intended for the needs of the monastic community, for purposes of solidarity within the Trappist Order, or for development projects and charitable works.
We’ve had these beers in the fridge for a while and decided winter was the perfect time to crack them open (and yes, we kept the Three Rules bottle because it’s just stunning).
Tynt Meadow 7.4%

This is the original Tynt Meadow, and until they added the Blond, it was the only beer this brewery made. It has lots of similar flavours to a classic Belgian Dubbel, such as fruit cake, raisin, and dates, and leaves a lovely treacle flavour in your mouth.
Brewer’s note: Trappist beers tend to be named after the place in which the monastery is situated. We’ve called ours ‘Tynt Meadow’, to honour the link with the plot of land on which monastic life was refounded here in the Midlands almost two centuries ago. Being part of the great Trappist tradition, we’ve chosen to produce a strong dark ale, but one with a clearly English character.
Tynt Meadow is mahogany-coloured, with a subtle, warm red hue, and a lasting beige head. Its aroma carries hints of dark chocolate, liquorice, and rich fruit flavours. The beer is full-bodied, gently balancing the taste of dark chocolate, pepper, and fig. It leaves a warm and dry finish on the palate.
Tynt Meadow Blond 5%

A sweet maltiness up front and a bitter orange finish (but not overpowering). A soft body and very moreish. Another lovely beer.
Brewer’s note: Tynt Meadow Blond, our second addition, shares the same ingredients as the darker ale but brings a refreshing lightness. It combines citrusy notes of mandarin, orange, and vanilla. At 5% ABV, this English Trappist Blond complements the original’s rich malt profile, adding a balanced, effervescent twist to our brewing tradition.
Following a centuries-old Trappist brewing tradition, we create robust ales that carry a distinctly English character. Both Tynt Meadow and Tynt Meadow Blond feature English barley, hops, and a unique English yeast strain.
Three Rules 7.4%

3 Rules was a collaboration between Tynt Meadow and the two Dutch Trappist Breweries, La Trappe and Zundert.
We first came across it in The Draughtsman Alehouse in Doncaster Train Station back in November 2024. We had never seen Tynt Meadow on tap before, and they had all three beers. We only had time for one, so we opted for Three Rules as we knew it would be a limited edition.
It was delicious, so we searched the internet for a bottle and managed to find one (there weren’t many about, and I imagine there are even fewer now). We were excited about drinking it, but also sad knowing we might never get to try it again.
It had more carbonation than the original Tynt Meadow, making it feel lighter, but the flavours were similar. Less sweetness and not as much treacle, with a slight liquorice flavour.
Brewer’s note: Trappist breweries Tynt Meadow, La Trappe, and Zundert proudly present an extraordinary new beer: Three Rules of Authentic Trappist. After months of collaboration in the deepest secrecy, the three Trappist abbeys have crafted a distinctive Dubbel. As a result, Three Rules of Authentic Trappist pays tribute to the three authentic rules by which Trappist breweries are governed. Proceeds from this special Trappist beer will help plant 14,000 trees with Trees for All.
The Three Rules of Authentic Trappist is a full-bodied, perfectly balanced Dubbel. The beer is full-bodied with sweet caramel, toasted malt, a hint of peat, and subtle spicy, hoppy notes. This leads to an unparalleled taste experience with every sip.
